Projects

During the "weltwärts" year the volunteers implement special projects beside their daily tasks. Some of them are presented here.

Mazingira Club (Environmental Club)

In the afternoon program, the German "WELTWÄRTES" volunteers, who are active for one year on site at the KIUMAKO, offer various activities in the form of clubs and projects for the pupils of the school.

These activities include the Mazingira Club. Several times a week, schoolchildren and students in the club deal with environmental issues such as energy-saving cooking, opportunities for upcycling and recyling, and maintaining clean water.

Examples include a ZamaZama Rocket Stove and plastic bag-made footballs.

Asali-Projekt (Honig-Projekt)

In the afternoon program, the German "WELTWÄRTS" volunteers, who are each active for one year on site at the KIUMAKO, offer various activities for the pupils of the school in the form of clubs and projects.

These activities include the Asali project. The beekeeper Eckhard Raft from Kellinghusen has developed the project since 2015 and started it up. Several times a year, he is on site in Uuwo to develop volunteers, students and local farmers to schools and the project. As part of this activity, a small honey store was opened in 2017 in Mwika.

As examples we show honey from the garden Claustal (BiBeKu). The proceeds from the sale (EinWelt Shop & Cafe ') flow into the Asali project.

KIUMAKO Sports Club

Several times a week our volunteers get active together with the pupils of KIUMAKO. Above all football is highly requested and always a lot of fun for everybody. Together with the surrounding schools a number of sport tournaments took already place. But also playing basketball or table tennis is possible at KIUMAKO and relieves the monotony of the everyday school life.
